The stroller used to be your lifesaver for running errands and taking walks, but now your toddler screams the second you buckle them in. Every trip to the store feels impossible and you miss the days when they sat happily.
Tanis Shanks from Saskatchewan Prevention Institute says toddlers crave independence and movement. Stroller refusal is developmentally normal. Your child wants to explore their world, not watch it pass by.
Check comfort first. Adjust the recline. Face the seat toward you if separation anxiety strikes. Reserve special toys that only come out during stroller time. Set a timer and race to clean up before it rings. Point to landmarks and say "You can walk when we reach that tree." Give five minutes of running before you leave home to burn energy.
This phase passes. Your toddler will rediscover the stroller when their legs get tired. Be patient.
