You walk into the nursery after naptime and find a diaper-free toddler and a mess you wish you never saw. This keeps happening and you feel exhausted cleaning up the same disaster every single day.

Dr. Harry Broome says toddlers explore their physical world and practice fine motor skills. Diaper removal is often curiosity, not defiance. Some children signal readiness for potty training.

Put zip-up pajamas on backwards so they cannot reach the zipper. Use a sleep sack at naptime to block access to the diaper. Check for diaper rash or discomfort first. If they show readiness signs like staying dry for longer periods, start potty training. Stay calm when it happens. Big reactions encourage the behavior.

This phase passes. Your toddler will move on to the next milestone soon.
